The agricultural sector, with a share of 18.4 percent of the province’s GDP and a share of 23 percent of employment, is considered one of the most important economic sectors of the province. The existence of suitable conditions, including water resources, fertile soil, and a suitable climate, has long made Lorestan province susceptible to agricultural development. Lorestan province ranks first in the country in the production of non-coastal farmed fish, and is also among the top ranks in the country in the production of legumes, black figs, barley, and walnuts. Other important products of the province, in some of which the province is considered a production hub, include wheat, corn, rapeseed, pomegranate, apple, red meat, chicken meat, and raw milk.
